It's Great to Meet You!
Hi, I’m Jason Newsome. I have spent more than 20 years in ministerial work and now over a decade in mental health. I am a licensed professional counselor and the President & CEO of DaySpring Counseling in Dunbar, WV. I have worked with a wide variety of clients with a wide variety of problems.
The reason I do what I do is because I truly believe people can improve their lives. I believe people can change the way they think, feel, and act. I believe people can have better relationships, a stronger sense of purpose, feel better about themselves, and have fulfilling lives regardless of what they have been through or where they’ve come from.
During my ministerial work, I frequently came across people who needed help with problems in their lives. Yet, I did not have the training to help them with complex problems that were better addressed by mental health professionals. As a result of my own need for training, I got a master's degree (and then a doctorate) in counseling. I truly love the process of walking with people on their journey from what is often their darkest time to a life of hope and peace.
I have found that many people are in need of learning how to apply Biblical principles to their everyday lives. From that recognized need, I began searching scripture and science asking God to help me not only understand but to also be able to communicate how the Bible really can impact lives in an everyday sort of way. In doing so, I also wanted to use what we know from counseling and other mental health fields. In short, this was a quest to find the truth about people, especially myself, and how we interact, deal with, and overcome problems and difficulties.
I have struggled with multiple kinds of life difficulties. I know you have too. There are not many people we know who have not had to overcome obstacles in their lives. Sure, some are more difficult than others, but we all have a story. I hope to help you connect with yours, face your difficulties, and overcome them. I hope to help you in your journey to Finding Peace in an Imperfect World. You can do it!
Because I never seem to have enough to do (HA!), I write. I hope you will find the blog posts on this site to be helpful. And hey, if there's a question I can answer, feel free to ask it! I'll do my best! Check out my FREE eBook and let me know what you think. I would love to hear from you!
